On behalf of the Latin American Regional Office of the IUF, which represents workers in the food, agribusiness, and tourism industries, let me begin by thanking you for your willingness to receive the delegation of our affiliates CNTA and CONTAC-CUT and our International Organization.

I would also like to express our most fervent enthusiasm as labor activists for the forming of a National Food Sector Front to support the reelection of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

We are living at a time in which the world seems to be hurtling inexorably toward its own self-destruction. The currently prevailing hegemonic paradigm, which is dystopian in nature, impels us to engage in confrontation, hatred, and war. We are going through a period of profound political upheaval and warmongering, in which it is easier to obtain resources to purchase weapons than to eradicate hunger or improve public healthcare, housing, and education globally.

Today, more than ever, we urgently need strong and experienced leaders, capable of standing up firmly and strategically to the self-proclaimed masters of the world who throw their weight around under a despicable context of impunity.

The reelection of President Lula will be a decisive step toward restoring, along with other leaders and social actors, a global governance that places the well-being of all peoples at the center of its every motivation.
